The Ambassador

Ambassador’s Message

I wish everyone warm greetings of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh. The day was marked by an elaborate programme with the participation of the members of the Bangladesh community in Japan.  As we celebrated the day with pride, we gratefully remembered those who sacrificed their lives to bring our freedom.  I also pay deep homage to the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who led in our struggle for independence.  We also remember with gratitude our Japanese friends who stood by us during our fight for independence.

The occasion was also a time to reflect on the achievements made by us in the last four decades.  Bangladesh, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, is today regarded by the world as a development role model.  The Hon’ble Prime Minister’s development roadmap, Vision 2021 and Vision 2041, places an inclusive, knowledge-based and participatory development model at the centre of all national development efforts.  This has resulted in significant progress in public health, education, food security, poverty reduction and women’s advancement.  Our industrial sector has also witnessed phenomenal growth along with the necessary infrastructure and linkages, especially in readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, leather goods and light engineering.  The IT sector is also growing with tremendous pace and potentials under the government’s vision of a ‘Digital Bangladesh’.  We are the world’s second largest RMG exporter after China; the 4th largest producer of rice; and also the 4th largest producer of fresh water fish globally.  Our economy today is the 45thlargest in the world.  We are one of the fastest growing economies in the region, with an annual growth that has averaged over 6 percent during the last decade and crossed 7 percent this year.

This year marks the 45thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Japan.  These 45 years of friendship have endured the test of time, and today Japan is one of our most trusted friends and development partners.  We deeply appreciate Japan’s support and investment in important projects and development initiatives in Bangladesh.  Japan occupies a very special place in Bangladesh’s foreign policy and people-to-people relations, and the Embassy is committed to strengthening and deepening bilateral relations in every sphere including political, economic, trade, education, sports and culture. We wish to establish Bangladesh as the favoured destination for Japanese companies, students and tourists.

The Embassy’s mission is to foster responsible public diplomacy and to enhance people-to-people contact. Towards that end, we will provide regular updates on the various activities and events organized by the Embassy.
